High Shoals Falls- Towns County Georgia

Saturday was a beautiful day so Justin and I decided to take a hike. When we started our trip we planned to hike Tray Mountain which is a trail up to a beautiful overlook. We took the miata on our excursion. After climbing and decending a mountain, we turned off onto a dirt and gravel road, forded a creek, and found that we were needing to travel 6 miles on an undeveloped bumpy road if we wished to do this hike. Luckily, two miles down that road we came across High Shoals Falls and decided to hike there. No cost to park or hike.
I have a book, "North Georgia Mountains Pocket Companion" by Brian A. Boyd, that I use to find outdoor adventures. Luckily most of the hikes and waterfalls are about 1 hour from our home. This particular hike and falls was 30 minutes from our home. The trail was 1.2 miles one-way and was rated moderate. The trail was well-marked and developed. The trail to the falls was down-hill (300ft), so of course the return trip was the most difficult. About 1/3 of the trail was flat. There were two main falls one 30ft and one 100ft. They were absolutely beautiful and the weather was gorgeous this day. Here are a few pictures of the falls and Justin and I posing in front of them.

We also made a video of the miata fording the creek. Pretty impressive right??

After the hike we decided to eat dinner at Old Bavaria Inn Restaurant in Helen, Georgia. This was the second time we went to this restaurant. They are very "proud" of their food, but it was very good and there are not many German restaurants to choose from, even in Helen. We hiked, dined, and traveled in about 5 hours.

Hope you'll visit High Shoals Falls and have as much fun as we did!
